Assuming you are stuck on proprietary systems with no X11 interface
such as a PC running MS Windows; I would
- Run Linux -- look into "Live CDs" such as Knoppix if you are
not able to reconfigure your PC.
- Do a full Cygwin install on the PC, which has free X11 support
available.
- Look into getting X11 interface products installed. There are
several very good ones available.
